JOB TITLE: DAY CAMP DIRECTOR

TERM: May 6th to August 23rd

COMPENSATION: $35.00 per hour

CLOSING DATE: April 15th, 2024

Job Summary 

The Rainbow Centre Day Camp Director is responsible for overseeing the planning, organization, registration and facilitation of the 2024 Rainbow Centre Day Camps sessions. The Camp Director will connect with families, support a team of 2-3 staff, be present for parent drop-off and pick-up each day, and manage contracts with external facilitators and guests. Day camps will be broken up into three separate age categories; Glitter Bugs (4-6 years old), Cool Cats & Kittens (7-9 years old) and Rad Jazz Unicorns (10-12 years old). Each week/session will rotate age category and theme. 

Duties and Responsibilities 

Pre-Camp 

● Prepare documents such as parent packages, waivers and schedule templates

● Prepare camp policies around kids walking home alone, parent authorization for pickups, etc. 

● Hire and train day camp leaders, and arrange for externally facilitated training

● Prepare a detailed schedule and theme for each session of the camp

● Purchase supplies needed for the camp 

● Coordinate sending and receiving signed parent packages and camp fees

● Review camper feedback and incorporate into the 2024 sessions

● Mentor the Camp Manager to learn leadership / management skills and have them assist with pre- and post-camp responsibilities, as well as have them lead staff support while camp is in session 

During Camp 

● Ensure that all activities are running smoothly 

● Handle all invoices from external facilitators 

● Manage the Camp Budget from week to week 

● Mentor the Camp Manager to support staff and cover breaks when needed

● Correspond with parents if any issues arise with their children during a session

● Replenish snack cupboard, sanitize and clean up the space after each day

● Complete evaluations on participant satisfaction

● Lead staff meetings 

Post-Camp 

● Coordinate the tear-down of the camp and reset for each new session

● Update the centre’s inventory of craft, sport, first aid and other supplies

● Facilitate an end-of-season debrief and evaluation for staff 

● Work with staff responsible for completing grant writing in regards to the camp (photos, budget, camper feedback, etc.) 

Qualifications

○ Experience managing funds and planning programming an asset ○ Summer camp experience is an asset

○ Knowledge of Northern communities, cultures, and trauma-informed care is an asset 

○ Must be comfortable swimming and supervising children in a pool or lake 

○ Criminal Record Check + Vulnerable Sector Screening 

○ Personal, lived understanding of 2SLGBTQIA+ identity is preferred but not required

● Complete evaluations on participant satisfaction 

Post-Camp 

● Coordinate the tear-down of the camp and reset for each new session

● Update the centre’s inventory of craft, sport, first aid and other supplies

● Help to plan the an end-of-season debrief and evaluation for staff

● Ensure all remaining or forgotten camper items are returned to families

JOB TITLE: CAMP LEADER (2)

TERM: June 10th to August 23rd

COMPENSATION: $27.50 per hour

CLOSING DATE: May 24th, 2024

Job Summary 

Camp Leaders will be responsible for a group of twelve youth, alongside two other Camp Leaders. The role of the Camp Leader is to build relationships, participate in camp activities, and ensure youth needs are being met while they are at camp. All Camp Leaders will work cooperatively and effectively with staff, guest facilitators, and volunteers and overseen by a Camp Director. 

Day camps will be broken up into three separate age categories; Glitter Bugs (4-6 years old), Kool Kats & Kittens (7-9 years old), and Rad Jazz Unicorns (10-12 years old). Each week will have a different age category. 

Camp Leaders will rotate on a weekly basis on a staggered schedule. Leader one will come in from 9:00 am - 5:30 pm, leader two and three will come in from 9:30 am - 6:00 pm. Leader two and three will be in charge of closing duties and can leave once all campers have been picked up and closing duties are (fully) completed. 

Duties and Responsibilities 

Pre-Camp 

• Participate in staff training and orientation 

• Assist with load-in of supplies and preparation 

During Camp Sessions 

• Engage with youth at all times; be open, communicative, and supportive

• Ensure youth are supervised at all times 

• Participate in activities with enthusiasm and energy 

• Use skills learned in training, redirect youth to Camp Director as needed

• Assist with additional tasks as needed 

• Adhere to the program plan, and contribute creativity, flexibility and ingenuity 

• Respect all equipment and facilities, and ensures proper care, use, and maintenance of them 

• Help prepare/set-up/supervise games and activities as needed

Post-Camp Sessions 

• Assist with the tear-down of camp 

• Preparing an accurate and organized inventory of craft, sport, first aid and other supplies 

• Participate in end of season debrief and evaluation
