Performing Arts & Social Justice Camp

We’re so excited to announce that, in partnership with Folk on the Rocks, we are hosting a five day music and performing arts (spoken word, storytelling, etc) camp for queer and allied youth, facilitated by visiting and local artists participating in the Folk on the Rocks festival. The five day camp will take place the week before Folk on the Rocks and will culminate in a performance by each of the youth who attended.

We haven’t announced our visiting artists yet, but stay tuned!

We’re currently looking for queer and trans NWT artists to help facilitate, if you’re interested, check out the Call for Proposals or apply here before February 15th!

How?

For youth interested in applying, we invite you to check out the criteria and see if it applies to you!

Criteria for Involvement:

  • Identify as LGBTQ+, Two-Spirit, queer, trans, or as an ally;
  • Living in Yellowknife, N’dilo, Behchoko or Dettah;
  • Have a basic knowledge of a musical instrument, vocal performance (singing), spoken word or storytelling;
  • Have a concept or short performance (3.5 minutes) prepared before the camp begins;
  • An interest in queer, Indigenous, social or environmental justice;
  • Be able to participate in the full 5 day camp; and
  • Be between the ages of 13 and 18.
